In order to access various funding opportunities, individuals and employees need to meet certain eligibility criteria. These requirements include (but not limited to):

• Citizenship Status
• Age
• Prior Qualifications
• Employment Status

VICTORIAN TRAINING GUARANTEE 2011

The government has recently introduced Victorian Training Guarantee.

Under changes to the Victorian training system, there are now a large number of government-subsidised training places available for people who meet the eligibility criteria.

A government subsidised training place is one where the tuition fees you are charged by a training provider are regulated by the government. This means the fees are often much lower than you would otherwise pay.

That makes 2011 the ideal time to make a start on gaining new skills, or upgrading your existing skills.

TRAINEESHIPS

Available through the Commonwealth Government, traineeship programs are provided to assist and support businesses in skill development of their employees. Varying across each State, funding may be available for existing and new employees.

SKILLS FOR GROWTH – THE WORKPLACE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The Skills for Growth Program is a Victorian Government initiative designed to assist small to medium sized businesses explore opportunities in areas of training and skill development of their employees.

This program is free of charge to businesses that are eligible and meet the following criteria:

• Are based in Victoria
• Employ between 1 to 200 staff
• Have been in operation for at least 12 months
• Be financially viable

The program provides an independent specialist who will assist a business to:

• Identify business objectives and priorities
• Assess the skill needs of a business and its employees
• Establish a customised workforce training and development plan
• Facilitate staff placement into accredited training; and
• Review the overall program outcomes.

The benefits of training are many including the ability for employees to take on new challenges, work more effectively and apply their skills in a practical way to benefit business.
